Inspired by the short stories of Anais Nin, Little Birds premiers on August 4th on Sky Atlantic.
Fresco Film would like to thank Sky Atlantic and Stacie Passon for their confidence in them on this shoot filmed in spectacular Andalusian locations in 2019.
Reproducing 1955 Tangier, this is an unforgettable vintage production, with great work by the entire team: production; locations; art department; wardrobe and makeup.
Written by writer and filmmaker Sophia Al-Maria, and directed by Stacie Passon – director of series like Billions and House of Cards, Sky’s new production is a six-episode period drama starring English actress Juno Temple.
Other important characters are: Hugo Cavendish-Smyth (Hugh Skinner), an aristocratic English Lord who is set to marry Lucy but whose heart is torn between his fiancée and his dashing Anglo-Egyptian lover Adham Abaza (Raphael Acloque); Cherifa Lamour (Yumna Marwan), a Moroccan dominatrix who services the diplomats and foreigners of this colorful, bohemian world; secretary Pierre Vaney (Jean-Marc Barr), who is desperately in love with her and Contessa Mandrax (Rossy de Palma), described as “the beating social heart of the colony”.
Little Birds is set in the emblematic «international zone» of Tangier, one of the last remnants of colonial decline. There, Lucy Savage experiences a cultural shock when arriving in the Moroccan city. Lucy wants an unconventional life, free from the bonds of the society in which she finds herself, but she knows that the path to freedom will not be easy.
